Always, Always have separate Display Network campaigns from normal Keyword Search campaigns.

Simply switching Display Networks on for a Keyword Search campaign will never allow the campaign to reach its full potential.

Display Network campaigns work in a completely different way to Keyword Search ones, they should target website themes and should be setup to help the adwords spider easily understand the types of websites or pages that you want to target and contain keywords that you may not necessarily want to target using keyword search.

Also try testing Interest Based Targeting to target general websites categories, these can improve your account reach and have a good ROI
